Getting help with the app.

One person reads this address. Tell us what phone you have, what version of the app, and what happened. Do not paste anything from a conversation you would rather keep private. You do not need to, and we would rather not have it.

The Android test build is available on request. There is no App Store or Google Play listing yet, and anything claiming to be one is not us.

Known limitations

Things that are true today and are worth knowing before you ask.

• It gets things wrong. A 4B model quantized to four bits is small. Arithmetic, dates, citations and anything specialised are where it fails first. It is instructed to say when it is unsure and never to invent a source, but it can still be confidently wrong.
• It needs a real phone. 8 GB of RAM for the default model, 6 GB for the smaller one. Below that the app will not let you download it at all, and says why. This is a hard gate, not a warning.
• Downloads pause in the background. The app checkpoints a download when it goes to the background, which is the last reliable moment before the system may close it. Downloads do not progress while the app is not on screen.
• An interrupted download can restart from zero. If the app was closed without a checkpoint there is no resume point, and the app tells you that rather than pretending it can pick up where it left off.
• It is slower than a cloud assistant. The model is loaded from disk when you open the app and unloaded when you leave it, so the first reply after switching away takes a moment. That is the trade for not sending anything anywhere.
• Recall stays quiet when it is not sure. MiniShrink would rather bring up nothing than bring up the wrong note, so it sometimes fails to connect a session to an earlier one it could have.
• Kid-safe is a child gate, not device security. Anyone who can unlock the phone can get around it.
• The library is eight packs, in one language at a time. They come with the app. A pack is written in its language rather than translated, so it exists only where one has been written. English is the language that has been written.

Common questions

Before you write in.

The model will not download.

Check the free space on your phone. The default model needs about 3 GB free, not 2.5. If the download button is greyed out, your device is under the RAM floor for that model; the smaller one may fit. A download that fails verification is deleted rather than installed, which is usually a network hiccup and works on a second try.

The app is slow, or it closes while generating.

Try the 1.7B model, or a shorter context length in Settings. The context length decides how much memory the model's working state takes, and it is the cheapest thing to lower.

Where are my conversations stored?

In one database file in the app's private storage on your phone. There is no copy anywhere else. See Privacy.

Tutor will not answer my question.

That is what it is for. Show it an attempt, even a wrong one, and it starts helping properly.

How do I delete what MiniShrink remembers?

Settings has a control for deleting MiniShrink conversations and their notes together, and the session notes screen lets you forget one note or all of them. Deleting a conversation deletes its notes with it.

Can I use it offline?

Yes, once the model is downloaded. Airplane mode changes nothing about chatting.
